The Beginning

Hey! Today the real Camryn arrived!!! So, in honor of her arrival, I am going to start her story. Little bit of background info: Camryn and her family are visiting friends in NY while they are waiting to get their paperwork to go on a dig in New Mexico. This is Camryn's first tie in the US since she was six. She and her parents are visiting their good friends, the Newman's, and staying in their home for a couple of weeks. Robin (MNF Ante) and Camryn were really good friends when they lived near each other but they haven't seen each other in over ten years.

Here is where you'll be staying, dear. This is Robin's room, but she's away for a couple of weeks so you can stay here! Make yourself at home, your parents are in the guest room upstairs and the bathroom is right down the hall. Feel free to take a nap, I'm sure you're exhausted! Anyways, i'll stop myself before I talk your ear off!

Thank you so much Mrs. Newman--

Oh please! Call me Deborah, dear!

Oh sorry, thank you Deborah. I really appreciate your kindness, and I hope Robin won't mind me staying in her room!

Nonsense, dear! She's not using it, and when she returns you two will have a lot to catch up on anyways. I'll be cooking dinner if you need anything, and I told you where the bathroom was?

Uh-huh, thank you.

Wow. This is different.

Great view though...

I wonder if Robin still likes to read those Nancy Drew mystery books...

I can't believe how tired I am! Guess I'll try to get some rest...

Later...

Hmm... 'This place is pretty strange. Lots of noise, noisy people, noisy cars, busses, even the dogs are loud. Its nothing like anywhere I've ever been, its going to take some getting used to, but this is how all great adventures start, right?'

*sigh*

Bonus shots!
Camryn turned out even more beautiful that I could've imagined. I love her so much! Thank you SO much Laura, you've made her into a reality!

First Day of Classes!

Hey! Today, I had my first day of school in over a year... Last year, I was homeschooled and Freshman year I attended AHS. Today, at 8am, I had my first ever college class at EVCC. I'm taking three classes a quarter, and our school district will pay for them, so I only have to cover my books/lab fees! For me, that really makes sense, because I can pursue a 2yr. degree and graduate from high school and get my AA simultaneously. So, I'm taking Art 110 and Graphic Design 110 on Mon, Wed Fri and English 101 on Tues/Thurs. Things went smoothly today, except for me oversleeping, and I'm ahead on my assignments and ready for tomorrow! I'm sure this bliss won't last forever, but for now, I'm enjoying the light work load and semi-light schedule. :) So, for now, posting will be more often than once a week (hopefully) until I find myself overwhelmed with my schedule. Thanks for listening!

The Attic

Hey! I've slowly been adding Kit's bedroom, finding bits of her collection that have been retired for awhile. I recently got a great deal on her retired bedding set, I had to buy another bed-- but for $60.00 including shipping (Shipping cost the seller $22.00) I couldn't refuse. Hopefully I can sell the bed and make some of my $$$ back! I also got her glove and ball from her Red's Fan outfit for $15.00... Not a steal, but I really like the significance of those in her stories-- And they're a great accessory for her room. Plus, now if I'm looking for the outfit, I don't *need* to find the complete outfit. Anyways, enough talk! On to the pictures! Here's a full-shot of Kit's 'room'...

Thanks for looking!

PS Guess what!? Camryn is on her way to me!!! She was shipped on Friday, and should be here by next week!!!!

Alice

Hey! Man, I've been lame with posting lately! I guess I'm just trying to enjoy my last couple of days of freedom... Classes start on Monday. So, do you remember my Alice in Wonderland dress from FOREVER ago?! Well, I finally finished it, and got to wear it to my aunt's birthday party today! This dress is SO much fun to wear, I just want to dance and jump around every second-- honestly! I ended up using about ten yards of tulle in the skirt, and even with all of that it's still a bit transparent. She chose to celebrate at a local teahouse, and about 20 of us attended in costume! :) Here are some of my favorite pictures from the 'event'... Enjoy!

What's back, white and red all over?

'Um' of Umbridge, of course! (The skirt isn't fluffed out in this picture, normally it is much fluffier)

My Uncle Jeff, Mad as a Hatter!

All of our family that attended the party... What a crazy bunch!

Anyways, thanks for looking! And, I'll try to post more often... Thanks!

Sewing For Camryn

Hey! Today I was going to post pictures of Camryn-- I just received her 'in progress' faceup shots from a member on DOA and she is fantastic! But, I really would like to introduce her when she is fully put together, and start her story. I have her wig, an outfit waiting for her, she has her eyes, someday she will get her own room and I also have most of her wardrobe on commission! So, I've been planning and working out ideas for her room, and I've also been sewing some simple things for her that I don't need a precise fit for. I made her some PJ shorts, a white tank, and a little vest for when she goes on digs with her parents. :) Her little vest took quite a bit of time, it has tons of little pockets, I made some little 'pencils' and an antiqued map, permission letters, and a couple of books. Since taking these pictures, I've also added a knapsack, leather journal, fossils and animal 'teeth'... But those pictures are for another day! Here is a picture of some of the things I've done for her:

The book is one that I made a showed a couple of months ago, I found the locket and vase in a lot of things at a yard sale!

The 'map' that I antiqued from a piece of off-white paper

Her 'permission letters' for the dig, and the toothpick pencils!

Thrifting

Hey! Today's post is going to be about some of my back-to-school shopping habits. I don't start my classes until the 23rd so I still have a little bit of time to prepare. I have almost everything I *need* for school, but I'm always looking for those statement pieces... My mom and I (and my brothers too) love to garage sale, we usually go out once or twice a month during May-Sept. and scope out the local yard sales. I love finding unique things to remake, or just clean up/repair a bit to wear! My first treasure is fro the yard sale where I found all of those patterns and fabrics. Its vintage, and made of a beautiful purple plaid wool. Its really unique (and handmade!) and all I would have to do to fix it up is add buttons and hem it! But, I want it to be a bit shorter, and I would like for it to have a real waistband, not just elastic. So, it will need a bit of an overhaul before it's deemed school-worthy. Here are the pictures of what it looks like now:

Second, is this lovely 100%  wool sweater made in England, also another yard sale find. It has a really unique pattern existing throughout the entire garment, and for $5.00, it as mine! :) I can't wait for the weather to cool down, I can see this paired with some leggings, or maybe a maxi-skirt just to mix things up a bit! ;)

AMTC

Hey! Sorry about not posting for a long while, things are just starting to get crazy around here, this is going to be a VERY long and wordy post, but hang in there with me, its a good story! :)

I recently got an amazing ministry opportunity that I couldn't turn down. AMTC (Actors, Models and Talent for Christ) is a non-profit organization that scouts talent from different cities and trains (the talent) for a large event that they host in Florida annually. This event is called Shine, and over 50 casting directors and agents looking for talent attend this six-day event and watch the AMTC members from across the nation perform! So, I was driving home from my Volleyball practice last Friday and I heard the end of an ad on the radio (Spirit 105.3) that mentioned the organization. I didn't think too much of it, but when I got home, my mom had also heard it and got the information and was researching it! The auditions for AMTC were on Saturday morning, so my whole family packed up into our Suburban and headed to Seattle to see what it was about.

Honestly, I was not expecting this to be as amazing as it was. We sang a hymn before we even heard the presentation, we also stopped to pray several times in the meeting. The CSO (Chief Serving Officer) of the company gave her testimony and explained that God was this company's CEO. Her story is amazing. She owned AMTC for over 20 years and launched many 'stars' such as Megan Fox. But, when she was 51 she was tired and felt empty. God prompted her heart at 51, and she committed her life to Christ and started living for Him.  This woman had successfully raised two daughters who were NY Stylists/photographers, one married, but they were not Christian. Within two years of her devoting her life to Christ, both of her daughters and her son-in-law were also Christians. Before she committed her life to Christ, AMTC stood for Actors Models and Talent Competition. When running on her treadmill, God spoke to the CSO and told her that her company has always been AMTC-- but it now was Actors Models and Talent for Christ. When she told her (Christian) friends about what God has told her, they recommended that she not change the name. They thought that she would loose all of her contacts that she had worked so hard to establish, and have to start from scratch. When AMTC changed its name, they did not loose any of their 50+ previous contacts. They continue to hold their Annual Shine event, and casting directors Christian and non-Christian attend and fellowship with one-another.

After listening to the two-hour presentation/testimony, they held auditions. The categories for auditions were: Acting, Singing, Modeling and Dancing. I tried out for Acting, Singing and Modeling. I get really nervous at auditions, and my voice will waver and crack--So, I didn't to my best (or really close to it, really) and was in tears at the end of the audition. Honestly, I was not expecting a callback at all, but, on Sunday afternoon I did receive a callback. They want me to develop skills in Acting, Singing and Modeling and begin to train in their programs! I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to become a light in such a dark place as the entertainment industry. Whether I'm there just to influence just one person, or a whole generation, I want to be prepared to let God do amazing works in and through me.

This amazing opportunity does not come without expense, I have to raise almost $4,000.00 before the end of December to pay for the Shine conference and all of my training beforehand. So, I've been selling more things, thinking of ways to reach different groups of friends-- And taking on more commission orders! :) Anyways, thank you for letting me share, I feel so blessed to have even gotten the chance to let God work through me, and I hope and pray that this journey will inspire others to go after their dreams! Thanks for listening! :)

Contest Winner!

Hey! The winner that received half of the votes from the Photo contest is..... Entry #5, Bobby! Congratulations! Please send me an e-mail and we can discuss your prize.

Thank you to all of you who voted, I appreciate you taking the time to do so. And a big thank you to all of our entrants, great job! Hopefully this will be large enough someday that I can get sponsors and offer more enticing prizes, but for now, thank you for your support!

On a slightly less upbeat note, the winner from the first giveaway hasn't claimed her prize, so the new winner is Heather! Heather, please send me an e-mail and we can discuss the size of the skirt you would like to have made. Thank you!

Life is in full-swing, so please bear with me as my posting will be very sparse this next few weeks. I do have a few things to post about, I finished my maxi skirt, and I sent Camryn (MNF Chloe) out for a faceup! All I have to do for her is order her wig, then I will be all set! Anyways, thanks for reading through all of this, and thank you for supporting Uniquely Me!

Christmas Already?

Hey! I've been slowly finishing some projects this week, this one has been sitting with the blouse almost finished and the jumper cut out for SO long... I finally just got tired of looking at it and finished it. Well, almost finished it! This outfit is from Kit's book illustrations and plays a key role in her stories, I have no idea why American Girl didn't make this dress in addition to her Christmas dress because this would've been a great addition! The story goes like this, Kit is embarrassed that her mother placed rick-rack over the crease that the hem of her dress had when her mother let it down so she could wear it again. Basically, that screamed "I'm poor" to everyone and it was super humiliating. So, I wanted to make this wonderful outfit so Kit can be embarrassed every Christmas. (Mostly because I REALLY dislike her Christmas dress from American Girl... Polyester?? Really!?)

     Here's the book illustration:

And my version:
I still have to add the rick-rack (I need to go to Joann's) and the belt buckle, and closures...
